Wasn't there

I am the man upon the stair
I am the man who wasn't there
I wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish I’d go away

I see the empty eyes that stare
Reflecting truths that couldn’t care:
My sunken soul, my sallow smile,
My craven, crooked, crowing, callow, _______
I cannot go forward
I cannot go back
I cannot, will not, shall not crack.
I found my nation, plant my flag
Inside a frozen glacier made of slag.
I stand atop my mountain glory
As whispers echo in the crags: I’m sorry.
